Trivia Question❓

Detroit is the only American city to have hosted a World Series, a Super Bowl, an NBA Finals, and a Stanley Cup Finals, but what is the meaning of the city's name, which comes from the French word for a narrow body of water connecting two larger ones?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

Metro Detroit's appetite for Chick-fil-A shows no signs of slowing down, and the beloved Atlanta-based chain is answering the call with a wave of long-awaited new openings across the region.

The most closely watched of the bunch is the Chick-fil-A new location on Mack Avenue, set to debut on November 13 at 17761 Mack Ave. on Detroit's east side.

This marks a significant milestone — it is the first standalone Chick-fil-A to plant its flag directly inside Detroit city limits.

The restaurant will be locally owned and operated, open Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., offering drive-thru, carry-out, and third-party delivery options for hungry diners.

The road to opening wasn't without turbulence — city officials temporarily halted demolition work at the former site earlier in the year, adding some uncertainty to the timeline.

Despite those early setbacks, the project pushed through, and the Chick-fil-A opening is now expected to bring roughly 100 new jobs to the surrounding community.

Meanwhile, the fast food expansion doesn't stop there.

A second metro Detroit location at Great Lakes Crossing — situated at 4790 S. Baldwin Road in Orion Township — opened its doors on November 5, also generating approximately 100 jobs for local residents.

That restaurant is operated by a Pontiac native who described the location as deeply personal, having grown up visiting the shopping center throughout her childhood.

It's the kind of community connection that sets these openings apart from standard corporate expansion.

Adding to the momentum, a Chick-fil-A new location near 8 Mile Road and Woodward Avenue is also currently under construction, with officials confirming the project is moving forward and expected to open later this year, pending any delays.

That spot will sit near a major transit hub, positioning it for strong foot traffic from commuters and area shoppers alike.

The wave of Chick-fil-A openings signals something bigger than just chicken sandwiches — it reflects a growing confidence in Detroit's consumer market and a broader shift in fast food investment toward urban and near-urban communities.

Michigan now counts more than 40 Chick-fil-A locations statewide, a figure that has grown steadily since the chain first arrived in Lansing a decade ago.

For Detroit, that trajectory feels both overdue and richly deserved.
